Unilever Future Leaders Program

UFLP looks for the fresh graduates who will lead this talented workforce into the future. The graduates we recruit today will become our leaders of the future. They must be ones who want more consumers to win over, more brand loyalty, more great products, and more competitors outsmarted. They must be ones with a global mindset, real accountability, strong team alignment and external orientation. More importantly, they must stay hungry for success.

Our graduate program is to provide top potential students both professional and personal evolution. They will be given a real job to do from the first day with the extensive on-boarding program and the intensive development plan on professional, business skills and leadership.

We’ll help you, help yourself

We’ll support you every step of the way, but much of your progress
will be up to you. As well as learning on the job, you’ll access to many
structured courses, including – in some areas – those which lead to
professional qualifications.

See the bigger picture

Wherever you’re based, you’ll quickly begin to see how the functions
operate closely together. And to help you better understand that
interaction, you’ll often work as part of cross-functional teams.
You’ll also get involved on every level. For example, from working
on the factory floor to spending time in a supermarket. As you move on,
your placements get more challenging. That can mean managing larger
budgets, bigger brands or more people.

What Career Opportunities await you?

Marketing

Marketing requires an expert knowledge of your brand, the people who use it, and how to communicate with them. So as a Marketer, you'll work closely with consumers - perhaps commissioning research into their likes, dislikes, and behaviour. You'll liase closely with agencies in PR, advertising and pack design to help you realize a campaign. And you'll speak to retailers , Unilever Brand Innovation Centres across the world and our Supply Chain and Customer Management Teams.

Customer Development

Getting saucy snacks, popular detergents, and much-loved face creams to the right shelves and the right customers. In Customer Business Development, you work with a certain type of customer - anything from multinationals like Carefour to independent retailers like Watson to cash & carry businesses to the smallest cornershop. In Category Management, you'll take care of a portfolio of products and develop a deep understanding of the products, consumers' habits, the market place and the products' competitors.

Your Career Roadmap

On Board
During the first few months of joining Unilever, you will be taken through the local on-boarding process. This helps you to better understand the organization, your team and the surroundings you will be working in. After you have become familiar with your operating company, you will then attend the regional on boarding program, This gives you an understanding of how all Unilever companies work together as an entity.

Formal Training

A carefully selected set of training courses is designed to enhance your effectiveness and operational efficiency in
your role. These formal training programmes ensure that you develop a thorough grounding for your path
to leadership.

Rotations

The Functional Rotation Scheme is a key part of your development to get a greater understanding of your function and the business. During the trainee period, you will be rotated through a series of areas both within and outside your function. This allows you to appreciate how each business unit interacts within Unilever.  Each rotation can range from 3-18 months; depending on the nature of the work or the project you have been assigned to. In addition, there will be a 6-month international rotation to enhance your understanding of how similar processes are implemented differently across countries.

Arlene Buenviaje-Juliano

BS Industrial Engineering, UP-Diliman
Management Trainee, Batch 2004

“It's a fast tracked career program that seemed exciting and challenging. The fact that you can become Assistant Manager in less than 2 years and a Manager a few years afterwards was too hard to resist. I also liked the concept of MTs working/ rotating in different departments during the MT program. I felt it would give me a good grasp of the total business.”

How is your Unilever experience so far?

“My experience in Unilever has been fantastic so far. The opportunity
for learning and career growth is almost endless. I have grown into a completely different person in the past few years -- I've developed my leadership skills and ambition for excellence. I don't think I could have gotten any better training than I did in Unilever.”

Mark Dee, Management Trainee – Customer Development
BS Management Honors - ADMU, 2008
Management Trainee, Batch 2008

“Unilever's MT program promised an opportunity to be successful in one of the biggest companies in the world. Not only are you offered a chance to be part of this family, you are given responsibilities that will truly speed up your corporate learning process. You really become a better leader in the organization as you have both the functional knowledge as well as a holistic perspective of the business by virtue of your stint rotations.”

How is your Unilever experience so far?

“So far, the experience has been very enriching. Everyday and every stint promises new challenges and new learning opportunities. The work may sometimes be a little bit hard but at the end of the day, you get a certain sense of fulfilment in being able to impact change in a big organization such as Unilever. Being in the program also allows you to network with a lot of people in the organization, which will enable you to see the whole picture of Unilever's Business.”

Timi Gomez,
Brand Manager – Surf
BS Economics - DLSU, 2005
Management Trainee, Batch 2006

“Before I started the MT program, I was really looking forward to working not just in my track, Marketing, but in its supporting functions, Sales & Finance departments, as well. I also liked the idea of being trusted with substantial responsibilities in spite of my inexperience. It was risky, exciting and empowering all at the same time! “

How is your Unilever experience so far?

“Risky, exciting and empowering. =) I enjoy the competition in the laundry market... mostly because it pushes the team and I to compete against ourselves... to be faster and smarter than we were the last time around. Also, I find a lot of fulfillment being part of a brand that has a real relationship with millions of Filipino mothers.”
